It's hard for me to reply to feelings, as you are now experiencing.

I don't even think I need to find sources for the fact that the GW and GW2 community is hard to compare as obviously, GW2 has more players and is more profitable. Is Guild Wars really a reliable source of income for ANet? Does it generate them enough? Probably not, otherwise they would care about their game, right? If you can show me proof of that this is wrong, please give me a link, that would truly surprise me and make me happy.

What you're not realizing is I am not even against you. Your experience is not a fact either, but I guess that only counts for me?

I thought it was clear that this is my theory, opinion, whatever you wanna call it and not facts? Do I need to write a disclaimer

I'm fairly new to the game, but I'll give my two cents: I don't think the problem is F2P or B2P system, simply the game is pretty old and many people prefer playing the sequel because newer and more popular nowadays.
GW1 doesn't have a great pool of people, especially if playing in servers which are not americans, but I think actual numbers still allow an adequate and enjoyable gameplay.

P.S. I had experience with F2P games and I wouldn't promote a change in this way... Majority of these have a game store which pushes people to spend a lot of money to be competitive. B2P system is cheaper and makes players more equal.

Honestly, Pulse I don't know if current player count can even matter. Specially' with henchmen.

In my 8 years of knowing the world of Guild Wars, I've partied with random people maybe 3 to 5 times to do "quests" or "missions". Other than that it used to be my StepBrother, some of my guild mates or just full on henchmen. We both beat the entire game series with just henchmen and heroes.

So I've always been the "doesn't matter how many people play" type.

The game was introduced as a competitive PvP game. The game should be free to play for PvP. Yes there may be people using bots on PvP accounts, but chances are there would be a higher amount of newcomers rather than just bots alone.

To unlock skins and the PvE section - people would be required to pay for that portion.
I really wish they'd do this as well. I'm surprised to see a legend like yourself, Motoko, still checking in every now and then.

If the PvP went free to play initial, they could still make a little money on the skill sets and PvP unlock packs. I'd totally jump back in to GvG if the game had an infusion to attract people back into the greatest PvP format of its time.

I mentioned this idea a few times back before GW2 when a lot of people still played. It would of slowed the decline of GvG and HA a lot and helped create lots of revenue but it never happened. Unfortunately it's way too late now. If it did go F2p it would be 90% be BR and pinoy.

Eh, the game is really cheap as is. Plus I treat GW1 as a single-player game with co-op on the side. Always have, always will. Makes no sense to go F2P. The reason names like Star Wars and Rift do it because they were bleeding subs and needed revenue now. GW1 is going to sit comfortably at this player base for a few more years I feel, F2P or no F2P. So might as well avoid the bots/spammers.

it is after you buy the game. They want it completely free--no buying nothing ever.

with it being so utterly cheap right now (you can get the whole shebang for what $30? now), it is as close to free as you can get.

True, I also spent a considered amount of money on GW, but dividing it across all the years of entertainment it's given me it's hard to beat the value.
Let's compare with subscription-based games, normally $14.95 but let's say $9.95 by paying 2+ years in advance (although even then it generally cost more than that).

From release date, that's 108 month. If starting from when game was new and spending $120 total.. that's $1.11 a month.

Comparing that to those sub games. I also like to compare the costs to time played. In my case, including all those char slots I bought, I payed around 4 cent per hour of playtime/enjoyment. Even if GW1 wasn't such an incredible game that would be a really good value. The only game that beats GW in that regard for me is diablo 2, which was ca. 1 cent per hour, but that majorly because I got my copy really really cheap and bnet was funded by advertisement instead of expenses for the players.
